Chōchō Daiko was inspired by taiko!
Taiko has been a life-changing experience for me, even though I have only been practicing since early 2017. In fact, the first time I saw taiko was at the Women’s March in 2017 in St. Paul, Minnesota. I signed up right away and had started either the end of that January or early February. What a treat!
Powers of Taiko was the first project and the reason for getting this site started, but I’m not sure where it will go….we will see!
Keep on drumming! Playing taiko is like a butterfly beating its wings. It is your own heartbeat, your own person dancing to and making music. When you play taiko, you are born again and again. In the first two years as I played more and more and connected with others through the music we made together, I had memories and realizations and more PTSD episodes than I had in a long time. I felt that layers of trauma were shedding off of me.
Taiko can truly be a transformative art, and it feels wonderful to know I’m not alone in putting this out there. Playing taiko makes me feel free, and that is such an awesome feeling!
