Come to some or all of the big drums (taiko) classes. Bachi (sticks) and drums are provided. Bring water and wear comfortable clothing. If you can count to four – or even eight – you will do just fine! This is a fun beginner course in St. Paul. You will learn a lot and exercise your brain and your body while making lots of noise with others. Sign up!
These are the various topics we go through in the beginner class. You will learn a lot while having fun.
- Stance/Core.
- The Hit/Dynamic Arm Movements.
- Kiai (using our voices to encourage each other).
- Triplets.
- Whole-body movement and integration.
- The Ji (back beat).
- Tosses and Twirls.
- Uchikomi (come to learn what this is about!).
- Groove Taiko (yes, it’s a thing!).
- Improv.
For the eight-week series, we do all of the above except the tosses/twirls and the whole-body movement, but will have tidbits from those classes in the others.
Lessons are in St. Paul, Minnesota on University Avenue, just east of 280 a few blocks, across from the Dubliner.
